Cut your nails short, don’t let them sharpen, and don’t paint your nails.

Wear contact lenses in a clean place (not in the bathroom)

Open one lens case at a time; after wearing one lens, open the other lens case to get the second contact lens to wear (this step is to avoid wearing the wrong two eyes)

NOTE: “DO NOT USE TAP WATER TO WASH CONTACT LENSES, MUST USE CONTACT LENS SOLUTION!!!”

WEAR CONTACT LENSES BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP AT NIGHT

  1. Wash and dry your hands. Open one side of the contact lenses case, take the contact lenses and put them in the palm of your hand.

5.Looking in the mirror, put the contact lenses on the black part of the eye

  1. Slowly remove your hands from your eyes and blink.

– Contact lenses are worn correctly when covering the other eye, the worn eye can be seen clearly.

– If the contact lenses are misaligned, find the contact lenses and use the tool to take them out and put them back on.

 – Do the same with the other eye.

 – After wearing it, wash the contact lenses case with hard glass cleaner and turn upside down to air dry.

Clean the contact lenses case and lens remover tool with a separate toothbrush weekly with soap and water. MUST DRY YOUR LENS CASE BEFORE REUSING.

How to remove contact lenses (when waking up)?

  • Wash and dry your hands with your eyes open. Check if the lenses are on the black part of your eyes.
  • Put 1-2 drops of tears into the eye, blink several times, put your index finger on the lower eyelid and put up the lower edge on the contact lenses until the contact lenses move quickly over the eyes.
  • Lens removal device: gently place the lens removal device on the contact lenses (1/3 lower of the lens) and gently remove it. Slide the lens gently out of the tool.
  • OR: Press the upper and lower eyelids with 2 index fingers. Align the bottom edge of the contact lenses to the lower lashes and the top edge to the top lashes.
  • Wash the contact lenses and put them in the corresponding lens case.
  • Put them on their case and fill them with solution.

 –        When the contact lenses are upside down, use the device to get the contact lenses

 –        When the contact lenses are facing up, we take two fingers to hold the same position of the contact lenses (hold one edge of it).

 –        Rinse before cleaning to avoid scratching the contact lenses.

MYOPIA PROGRESSION

What is myopia and the status of myopia?

Myopia is a refractive error caused by an elongation of the eyeball axis or an abnormal curvature of the cornea resulting in an image of objects formed in front of the retina. People who have myopia will see blurred vision in the distance than near, if high myopia can see blurred both far and near.

Myopia is the most common eye abnormality. In Vietnam, the rate of myopia in students is estimated at 30-40%.

It is estimated that by 2050, the rate of myopia in the world will be nearly 50%, this is an alarming number and a great economic burden for society.

Risk factors for myopia progression

Heredity: The risk of developing myopia is higher in children of myopic parents.

Time of early onset of myopia.

        Work at near distance.

Why myopia progression is a concern?

Myopia progression associated with an elongated eyeball increases the risk of serious vision-threatening complications such as:

 –        Glaucoma

 –        Cataracts

 –        Degeneration, retinal detachment

 –        Macular Hole

 –        Choroidal neovascularization

Different approaches to control myopia progression

 –        Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) contact lenses: change the corneal curvature during sleep (return to normal when not using contact lenses), is a safe, highly effective method in limiting the progression of myopia, patient do not need to wear glasses. However, the cleaning and maintenance requirements are more complicated.

Multifocal soft contact lenses: as effective as Ortho-K.

Low dose Atropin: More experimental studies are needed, as side effects include photosensitivity and glare up close.

        Bifocal/multifocal glasses.

        Increase outdoor activities.

Take your child to the eye doctor right away when there are risk factors or suspicious symptoms such as squint, come closer to see, need to change glasses due to increasing myopia in a short time. Come to Minh Anh Eye Clinic for advice on methods of management progressive myopia control.

HYPEROPIA IN CHILDREN

IS HYPEROPIA IN CHILDREN DANGEROUS? WHEN SHOULD HYPEROPIA IN CHILDREN BE TREATED?

Farsightedness (Hyperopia) is a relatively common refractive error in children. This refractive error is usually due to the shorter than normal eyeball axis, the image will be focused behind the retina.

Mild hyperopia usually has no symptoms, while moderate to severe hyperopia causes blurred near vision and blurred distance vision sometime.

Most children are born with mild physiological hyperopia, which does not affect vision, and the hyperopia gradually decreases as the size of the eyes increases and reaches normalization at about 6 years of age.

However, some children have an abnormal eye development process that causes them to have high hyperopia that does not decrease over time, causing eye problems such as blurred vision, eye strain, strabismus/strabismus, and amblyopia.

Treatment of hyperopia in children depends on the age of the child and the amount of hyperopia that the child is experiencing.

Therefore, parents should take their children to the doctor from a young age and periodically follow them up for timely detection and treatment abnormalities in the eyes.

5 WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR EYES WHEN EXPOSURE TO BLUE LIGHT

Minh Anh Eye Clinic offers 5 ways to protect children’s eyes during the period when children have to be directly exposed to blue light from phones and computers:

  1. Apply the 20 – 20 – 20 rule

To avoid eyestrain and headaches, children’eye need to be relax by giving their eyes a break every 20 minutes to see 20 feet (~6 meters) away.

  1. Sit in the correct posture while studying

Sit up straight, shoulders and back relaxed, the screen an arm’s length away from your eyes, at eye level. Every half hour, get up and stretch, stretch the joints of your back, arms, legs, etc. to not get tired as well as to keep your mind awake.

  1. Proper eye rest

Practice looking away for your eyes, blink and rest your eyes every 20-30 minutes using electronic devices.

  1. Have foods rich in vitamin A and antioxidants

Nutrition plays an important role in healthy eyes, in which foods such as carrots, eggs, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers, gac fruit, cauliflower, red, orange, yellow vegetables,…. Contains a lot of vitamins A, E, C and minerals such as zinc which contain antioxidants, help fight macular degeneration, improve the condition of the eyes.

  1. Get regular eye exams and use appropriate methods to treat refractive errors

AMBLYOPIA IN CHILDREN

  1. What is amblyopia?

Lazy eye (amblyopia) is reduced vision in one eye caused by abnormal visual development early in life.

Usually, amblyopia is the result of eye diseases such as high refractive error or anisometropia, strabismus, or other abnormalities that interfere with vision: ptosis, congenital cataracts,… Children at this time cannot use one or both eyes normally, then the visual function of the brain is not “learned” correctly and as a result, the ability to see is reduced leading to amblyopia.

  1. How to recognize a child may have amblyopia?

        Blur vision

        One eye crossed inside/outside (strabismus)

Eye movements are not in the right direction, not well coordinated

        Poor depth perception

      Squint the eyes to see

Tilt, turn your head to look

Cry, avoid when covering one eye

        Abnormal eye appearance

Poor academic results, loss of concentration when reading books

  1. Is there any method to prevent and treat amblyopia?

Treatment according to the cause: If amblyopia is caused by strabismus, congenital cataract or ptosis, …, the doctor will consider many factors that are suitable for each child’s condition to eliminate the causes amblyopia by surgery at appropriate stages and times. In the case of amblyopia due to refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, anisometropia), the child will be prescribed the correct glasses.

Make the eyes with amblyopia work: Better eye patch or atropine treatment helps the amblyopia eye learn to see.

Treatment of problems related to binocular vision

Finally, regular eye exams for children are the only way to detect and treat children with amblyopia in an early stage.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ORTHO-K CONTACT LENSES
